The need for more hotels in Gandia, Spain, has been a topic of debate among tourism entrepreneurs. The president of the hotel association of Gandia and La Safor, Luis Rodríguez de Rivera, has raised this issue, highlighting the demand during the summer but also the challenges the city faces in other seasons. Currently, only a few hotels remain open on the beach during winter, raising doubts about the viability of increasing hotel capacity without additional tourist resources.
Rodríguez de Rivera has argued that the high seasonality in Gandia, with busy summers and closed accommodations in autumn and winter, is one of the key factors. Additionally, urban limitations also hinder the creation of new hotels, as they require land with significant volume. To address this situation, the association’s president has proposed the need for reflection and suggested investing in the city center, in iconic buildings, to develop boutique hotels with up to 15 rooms, managed by families and with attractive ground-floor restaurants.
Despite these challenges, the hotel association of Gandia and La Safor remains optimistic about the upcoming summer season. Rodríguez de Rivera has emphasized that reservations have shown significant anticipation, starting as early as January. Tourism entrepreneurs are confident that the tourist demand will remain strong and expect that investments and improvements in the hotel offerings will further boost tourism in the Gandia region.
