The Spanish Government, led by the State Secretariat for Tourism, is forging the Spain Sustainable Tourism Strategy 2030, a national road map to address the long-term challenges of tourism. This participatory approach involves the sector and the autonomous communities, prioritizing socio-economic, environmental and territorial sustainability.
The main goal is to lay the foundations for transforming Spanish tourism towards a model of sustainable growth, whileining its global leading position. This new approach will be based on improved competitiveness and profitability, the cultural and natural values of destinations, and a fair distribution of benefits and burdens.
The Preliminary Report looks at the future challenges of the sector, the Strategy being a commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda.

Motivations of the Tourism Strategy
Spain, a world leader in tourism, faces profound changes and challenges despite four decades of steady growth, contributing 11.7% to GDP and employing 12.2% of the labour force. The new strategy seeks to adapt to these changes by adopting a renewed approach toining and improving the performance of the sector.
