SEGITTUR has conducted an analysis of the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Congresses and Exhibitions) tourism-related data model to develop a methodology to measure the economic impact on destinations. This methodology will be integrated into the Intelligent Destinations Platform (PID).

The lack of data has been identified as a major challenge for MICE tourism, making it difficult to assess the economic, social and environmental impact of events on destinations. For this reason, a measurement methodology has been developed in collaboration with five destinations: Benidorm, Bilbao, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Murcia and Valencia.

The proposed methodology includes a wide range of economic, social and environmental indicators, covering aspects such as meeting attendance, hotel occupation, investment, employment, energy consumption and waste management.

It is considered comprehensive, reliable and useful for decision-making at destinations. It is expected to improve the understanding of the impact of MICE tourism, boost public and private management, and promote interaction among industry actors.

In addition, best practices such as priority access, the holding of accessible events, the reduction of plastics, sustainable mobility and the digitization of surveys have been analysed. All this information is available on the website of SEGITTUR.
