Gandía beach has been awarded the Blue Flag for the thirty-sixth consecutive year, making it one of the eight beaches that have received this recognition since the program began in 1987. The Blue Flag is an award given to the beaches and marinas that meet a series of quality, safety, environmental management, information and environmental education criteria. Only 250 municipalities in all of Spain achieve this award each year, which demonstrates the importance of the commitment and effort required to achieve it.

The recognition act was held at the Castell de Cullera, where the Spanish Association for Environmental and Consumer Education, ADEAC, honored the municipalities that have obtained the Blue Flag without interruption since 1987. The mayor of Gandia, José Manuel Prieto, and the Councilor for Tourism, Vicent Mascarell, were present at the ceremony, along with the City Council’s technical staff who have worked hard to keep the beach in optimum condition.

Nearly 400 municipalities in Spain have participated in the Blue Flag program, which further highlights the importance of this recognition. Only eight municipalities have achieved the award in the last 36 years, and seven of them are in the Valencian Community: Alcalá de Xivert (El Carregador beach), Alfàs del Pí (Racó de l’Albir beach), Alicante (San Juan beach) , Calp (La Fosa beach), Campello (Carrer la Mar beach), Cullera (Sant Antoni beach) and Gandia (North beach). The only municipality outside the Valencian Community is Oleiros, in Galicia, which has the Bastiagueiro beach. Gandia beach has been recognized for its commitment to the public and the tourists who visit it, as well as for its excellent quality and environmental management. The Blue Flag award is a sign of the effort and dedication that the Gandia City Council has put into keeping its beach in optimal condition for so many years.
