On the morning of Tuesday 14 began the II Meeting of Chair Tourism of the Alliance of Tourist Municipalities of Sun and Beach (AMT), organized by the Chair of Tourism Studies Pedro Zaragoza Orts of the University of Alicante.

The event addresses the advances in mobility, highlighting lectures such as that of Jesús Alba López, CEO of PMUS and CIVIL, on ‘Low Emission Zones in Spain and the digitization of mobility’. The ‘Proactive Cities’ session was also held, where Francis Muñoz, councilman of Mobility of Benidorm, presented the achievements of the city in this area.

Mayor Toni Pérez inaugurated the meeting highlighting the pioneering role that the AMT municipalities want to have in tourism. Pérez highlighted that tourism is not only a great economic asset for the country, but also a source of happiness for the people. In his speech, he stressed the maturity of these destinations and the need to work continuously to improve, emphasizing that the path taken is the greatest benefit.

Francis Muñoz, in his presentation, highlighted the transformation of Benidorm into a more accessible city for pedestrians and cyclists, mentioning the creation of 117 kilometers of bicycle lane and the renovation of the Mediterranean Avenue, which has improved pedestrian mobility and reduced the temperature thanks to the shade zones. Muñoz also spoke about reducing urban speed and implementing single platforms to improve sustainable mobility.

The meeting brought together chairs of tourism of national prestige and had the participation of patrons of the Chair of Tourist Studies. This afternoon, a Benidorm-guided tour will be held to complement the morning sessions, allowing attendees to explore first-hand the recently implemented and nationally award-winning mobility initiatives, such as the pedestrian mobility project in the southern area of James I and the urbanization of the Mediterranean Avenue.
