On March 14, the city of Gandia will become the epicenter of scientific recognition in Spain by hosting the award of the National Research Awards 2023, organized by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities. This event, which will feature the distinguished presence of the Kings of Spain, underlines the commitment of Gandia and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to the promotion of public policies that drive science and innovation as engines of progress.

Minister Diana Morant highlighted the relevance of these awards as a tribute to the talent and effort of those who contribute to society’s advancement through research and innovation. For Gandia, it will be a historic milestone, as it has barely been visited by the Kings in the democratic stage, thus demonstrating the national recognition of its trajectory in the scientific field.

The mayor of Gandia, José Manuel Prieto, expressed his honour to host these awards, which will place the city on the map of Spanish research talent. This event also highlights the commitment of the Ministry of Science to the region, as evidenced in the previous announcement of the installation of a headquarters of the Spanish Oceanographic Institute in the city, thus strengthening its position as a research centre.

Moreover, this edition of the awards marks a milestone by being held outside Madrid for the third time since its creation in 1982, highlighting the goal of decentralization and recognition of scientific work in different regions of the country. With a total budget increased to 160,000 euros, these awards reward both the consolidated trajectory and the innovative potential of young researchers and companies that make innovation a key pillar for national development.
