Researchers from the universities of Alicante, Politècnica de València and Universitat de València have launched the open data portal TData for the tourism sector in the Community.

Funded by the Generalitat and coordinated by José Norberto Mazón, professor of Languages and Computer Systems at the UA, the project aims to use public data to design more competitive marketing campaigns, institutional policies and tourism models.

TData collects diverse information, such as overnight stays, average expenditure and other relevant tourist data, from sources such as the National Institute of Statistics. The focus of this project is to ensure that this data complies with the FAIR principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable), thus facilitating its reuse in the development of value-added products and services. This step towards data standardization seeks to boost the application of artificial intelligence techniques in the tourism sector.

TData is already being employed by technology transfer projects, such as InferIA, which apply artificial intelligence techniques to facilitate the search for necessary data and solve specific problems in the tourism sector. These efforts, according to the project coordinator, contribute to implementing open innovation processes, thereby generating more competitive and advanced tourism models.
